Described as a "living breathing monument," Light Cave by Los Angeles-based art collective FriendsWithYou will go on view today at The Standard High Line Plaza in New York and will stand through the month of September. The large-scale, inflatable installation measures 55 ft. x 25 ft. x 14 ft. and was described by the New York Times as an "abstract, prehistoric cave." Visitors to The Standard will have to go through the sculpture to enter the hotel, taking in what the press release calls a "sensory rich experience."

The artists behind FriendsWithYour, Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III, say in the release that Light Cave, made possible by the hotel and the Art Production Fund, is a "cathedral of the spirit," adding that the "interactive experience is manifested with the purpose of joining people together in a metaphysical sense.” This feel-good, communal message is what we've come to expect from FriendsWithYou, a duo that builds their practice off of a concept of new mysticism. Last year, FriendsWithYou brought giant inflatable sculptures to Art Basel Miami Beach for their installation Somewhere Over the Rainbow. They told us of the installation: "We wanted the experience to be like you made it to the end of the rainbow, a place where healing colors radiate people as they chill and play with our work making their own adventure." We expect their new work to be just as sublime.
