Taking cues from neoclassical paintings of the past, Diesel’s pre-fall 2014 ad campaign is delivering a heavier, darker, and much grittier look while continuing to maintain the level of refinement that the brand is known for.
Shot by famed director Nick Knight (the genius behind Kanye West’s “Bound 2” video), the images showcase the brand's first clothing line designed by Nicola Formichetti, the newly appointed artistic director of Diesel.
Formichetti explained the the concept of the shoot came from examining "many of the great images, from fashion advertising to fine art, that have shaped our way of looking at things."
Wrapped in smoke and black fitted leather, the campaign is the perfect indication of where the brand is today. Mixing imagery of Italian fine art and the effects of digital graphic design, it’s clear the label is making reference to a new forward-looking era that nods to the past.
