Peddy Mergui Imagines Everyday Foods With Luxury Brand Packaging

These packaging designs are exactly what we would expect if luxury brands got into the food business.

For an exhibition entitled "Wheat Is Wheat Is Wheat" at the Museum of Craft and Design, artist Peddy Mergui "explores the dynamic and often blurred ethical boundaries of design within consumer culture." Mergui designed packaging for food items including coffee, eggs, yogurt, milk, and other basics as if they were products of luxury brands.

"The various exhibits combine shapes and images from the world of consumption with concepts from the field of consumer ethics," the artist explains. "They serve to highlight both the contentious, potentially arbitrary connection that products have to packaging, and the ethically challenging conditions in which designers are asked to operate." From Louis Vuitton-wrapped salami to Versace huevos, Mergui's designs are funny because they really aren't that far-fetched (though we really hope the day never comes when Gucci pickles are a thing).
