The view from an airplane offers a perspective of the world that is one-of-a-kind. American photographer Alex MacLeanhas been captivated by this vantage point ever since the 1970s, and he got his pilot’s license just to spend more time observing humanity from the clouds. In his work, he seeks to capture the relationship that people have with their environment, to chronicle things like pollution, resource extraction, and urban development, and the incredible way these phenomena manifest.

“Through sort of abstract and engaging patters, those things will draw people into it to hopefully think about these issues. It really is about combining art and information,” the photographer says of his work.
