At the 2014 ADAA Art Show, Yancey Richardson will present a solo exhibition of the internationally acclaimed South African artist Zanele Muholi's, "Faces and Phases." It's an ongoing portrait series of black lesbian and transgender individual in South Africa and beyond. The portraits function as visual statements as well as an archive, presenting and preserving an often abused and ostracized community through visual records.

An installation of 48 portraits by Muho is currently on view at the 2013 Carnegie International, where she was awarded the 2013 Fine Prize. The project was also exhibited at the Venice Biennale 2013 and at dOCUMENTA(13) in 2012. In April 2015, the Brooklyn Museum of Art's Sackler Center for Feminist Art will present the first US solo exhibition of Zanele Muholi.

Skarstedt will present iconic painting, photography, and sculpture by Condo, Haring, Kelley, Kippenberger, Kruger, Sherman, Prince, and Warhol from the 1980s and 1990s, along with work by contemporary European and American artists. Each of the works to be exhibited are some of the most significant examples from each of the artists' oeuvres, addressing themes of autobiographical content, politics, theatricality, and commentary on life and death.

P∙P∙O∙W will install a solo booth of rare, never before exhibited historical works, vintage photographs, ephemera, and films by Martha Wilson that highlight the four seminal years she spent in Halifax, Nova Scotia during 1970-74.

For over 40 years, Wilson's work has revealed contestations in feminist and socially engaged practices, paralleling the ways that identity and posturing are not just projected but negotiated. From 1970-1974, her performance, video, photography, and text work investigated the self, as well as self-perception, through physical and cultural lenses. All of the works from this period were created in Halifax, where Wilson first made work as a reaction to marginalization by the male-dominated art school environment.

Wilson was recently described by art critic Holland Cotter as one of "the half-dozen most important people for art in downtown Manhattan in the 1970s." Enough said.

Famous since the 1950s for his abstract and figurative painting, American artist Alfred Leslie has updated his craft for the digital age. His realistic painting style has been merged with modern technology to create fantastic hybrid views which the artist calls "pixel scores."

Using computer tools and software, Leslie has invented a unique blend of photography, drawing, and painting. The images are digitally drawn by hand and then printed as light jet photographs.

Since the inception of photography in the mid-19th century, architecture, in the broadest sense of the word, appears in an enormous number of photographic images. The Howard Greenberg Gallery will exhibit photographs by some of the most important artists in the medium including Berenice Abbott, Edward Burtynsky, Walker Evans, William Klein, Charles Marville, Joel Meyerowitz, Edward Steichen, Alfred Stieglitz, and Karl Struss, among others.

Be it through the fragment of a building, the reflection in a glass pane, light bouncing off a brick wall, a view through a curtained window, or a canyon between skyscrapers, the photographs Howard Greenberg Gallery are exhibiting explore the complex relationship between photography and architecture.

For this year's The Art Show, Fraenkel Gallery presents "Diane Arbus: Couples," 15 rare photographs spanning Arbus' life as an artist. Focusing on a single photograph per year, "Diane Arbus: Couples" simultaneously examines one of Arbus' central concerns and sheds light on the artist's evolution from 1956 until shortly before her death in 1971.

Arbus' photographs have had a tremendous impact on photographers everywhere, and her legacy has continued since her unfortunate death in 1971. Few know that her art career was brief and only around 15 years in total. Her earliest photographs show an acute interest in singular people and the mysteries that bring human beings together or keep them apart.
