Dallas-based Neiman Marcus may finally be taking up shop in NYC, moving into the Hudson Yards district of the city, with plans to snatch up over 200,000 square feet for a multi-level storefront.

It's almost surprising that the big name luxury retailer Neiman Marcus doesn't already have a space in NYC, a city that is arguably the high fashion capital of the U.S. This is likely explained by the fact that Bergdorf Goodman, another massive luxury retailer, is owned by the Neiman Marcus Group, thereby representing its interests in New York City.

While Hudson Yards seems to be a promising venue for fashion in New York City—even becoming the heir apparent to New York Fashion Week—several stores have courted, but ultimately declined the future West Side development. Department store heavies like Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bloomingdale's have all passed on the area, blaming the area's somewhat difficult-to-get-to location.

Regardless of the locatin, Neiman Marcus heading to New York City only bolsters its reputation as a high-fashion city, a moniker that's likely to remain for some time.
