At envoy enterprises, artist Rachel Mason is currently showing a collection of marionette-like sculptures made to resemble people that she says she feels a "total kinship" with, including Beyoncé, Marina Abramovic, Joni Mitchell, Patti Smith, Yayoi Kusama, and Nina Simone. The artist explains that between 2004 and 2011, she had been sculpting the faces of world leaders who were involved in wars during her lifetime and writing songs to get inside their minds. "I wanted to understand how a small number of people could affect massive numbers of people so I had to stare them in the face," she says.

The current body of work was made when Mason decided she needed a change. "Realizing I had been ignoring a huge piece of the world I live in by focusing only on one type of person, a type of person who felt like the opposite to me, I realized how desperately I wanted to star into the faces of those people with whom I could identify. People of my species."

The exhibition runs through March 30. Head to envoy enterprises for more information.
