Polish firm UGO Architecture has designed a one-of-a-kind bridge in Bug Valley, a province near Niemirow, Poland. The architects drew inspiration the setting’s natural landscape when brainstorming design plans. The bridge is shaped like a twig, reminiscent of the many trees and fallen boughs that populate the environment. Mock branches that jut out from the bridge's central path serve as observation decks for pedestrians.
The bridge is firmly situated on a reinforced concrete foundation, supported by five points of contact. The walking surface is (appropriately) paneled wood. Energy-efficient photocell lighting fixtures have been incorporated into the bridge’s sides. The structure was fashioned using sturdy sheets of steel mesh, which will allow wild vegetation to eventually take over the exposed metal. Once this happens, the bridge will almost be indiscernible from its surroundings.
