In case you somehow missed it, the latest Google doodle is simply awesome in that it celebrates both the 2014 Winter Olympics, which kick off in Sochi, Russia today, and it promotes gay rights. Last night, Google posted a vibrant-colored doodle featuring six Olympic athletes against a backdrop shaded like the rainbow flag. It was the Internet giant's way of showing its support for both LGBT Olympians participating in the games and the entire LGBT community as a whole.

In conjunction with the Google doodle promoting same love, the company has taken a few lines from the Olympic Charter and posted them beneath the search bar. "The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play," it reads.

Consider this Google's way of protesting against Russian president Vladimir Putin's recently-enacted anti-gay legislation—a bold and applause-worthy move on Google's part.
