In a way, En Noir's fall/winter 2014 runway show was a lot of what people expected, and simultaneously caught everyone off-guard. People knew it was going to be one of the most highly-attended shows of the season, and the crowds that packed the front of house swelled to sizes that only a venue like the Park Avenue Armory could hold. But once inside and settled, the crowd was treated to a show that brought dark vibes and a palpable energy created by a label and fanbase that have skyrocketed in growth in the past few seasons.
Dudes like Victor Cruz, JR Smith, and Amar'e Stoudemire took it all in alongside fashion's top buyers and editors. While everyone was already familiar with the general aesthetic of En Noir, designer Rob Garcia sent out numerous looks (including two on runway legend Omahrya Moto) constructed of materials that signaled a serious pushing of the envelope—something that will soon become more of a brand trademark than the now-signature leather pieces. Neoprene, fox fur, distressed sequins, raw denim, and pony hair were all prominently featured in a collection showcased last night in what was definitely En Noir's coming out party.
