Sometimes poetry is painstaking and elusive, sometimes it comes pouring from the heart, and sometimes it is completely accidental. (Remember that expression, “You’re a poet and you didn’t know it?”) While perhaps it's not a mistake just any person is bound to make, it appears to be a pitfall for a band of America’s most respected journalists. During the past few years, TheNew York Times writing staff has (mindlessly?) let their generally pointedly crafted prose lapse into serendipitous haikus. The results are fantastic, if you’re one for poetry that evokes rather odd and sometimes dull themes.
