If humans eventually colonized the moon, how would they be represented on Earth? With an embassy, of course.

The Arts Catalyst has come together to imagine what this Earthbound outpost would look like in a project called "Republic of the Moon." Artists Liliane Lijn, Leonid Tishkov, Katie Paterson, Agnes Meyer Brandis, and WE COLONISED THE MOON will transform the Bargehouse in London into a scene from a sci-fi future, imagining a lunar embassy on Earth.

The Guardian asserts that "Republic of the Moon" is especially relevant today, a time when both companies and nations are setting their sites on the glowing orb. "It could be the start of corporate imperialism in space," reads The Guardian's blog. "With nations hamstrung from competing, this would inevitably lead to private companies holding power over national governments."

The Arts Catalyst is not the only group of artists to set their sights on space. A few months ago, Olafur Eliasson and Ai Weiwei launched their website "MOON," a virtual project where users can graffiti messages across a digital moon.

The website explains, "your drawing is a hinge between you, everyone else, and the universe." The assumption that the moon is for all (and not just private parties) to enjoy, falls in line with the ideas behind "Republic of the Moon."

"Republic of the Moon" opens Jan. 10 at the Bargehouse in London and runs until Feb. 2.
