Malisha Dewalt brings our attention to characters unfortunately overlooked in traditional Western art history. In her Tumblr People of Color in European Art History, she highlights the non-white depictions in works of art from the Roman Empire to the mid-17th century.

Dewalt writes on her blog, “The ubiquity in modern media to display a fictitiously all-white Europe is often thoughtlessly and inaccurately justified by claims of ‘historical accuracy’; this blog is here to emphasize the modern racism that retroactively erases gigantic swaths of truth and beauty.”

By allowing readers to contribute and write responses to the images on the Tumblr, Dewalt's blog becomes a platform for discourse on the way we tell the history of art.
