Following a $1 million gift in 2008, the Keith Haring Foundation has honored the New Museum with an additional $500,000 grant in support of their School, Teen, and Family programs. The New Museum's Toby Devan Lewis Director, Lisa Phillips, said that their programming is "essential to opening young people’s minds and inspiring learning about the world through contemporary art" and continued by saying that the grant from the Keith Haring Foundation will help them "provide free access to the Museum and expose young and diverse audiences to new art and ideas.”

The New Museum approximates that their programming has been offered to over 20,000 teens and families over the past six years, and they plan to have that number increase significantly in the future thanks to the support from organizations like the Keith Haring Foundation. "We remain deeply impressed by the Museum’s continuing effort to seek out and highlight vibrant contemporary artists who share Keith Haring’s spirit and energy," says Foundation executive director Julia Gruen, adding that their connection with the New Museum is also a tribute to the late artist who felt that inspiring and working with children was important.
