It should come as no surprise that the childhood home of a Beatle sold big at auction, but the hammer price shocked even the most conservative predictions. The home where John Lennon lived until he was five on Newcastle Road in Penny Lane was estimated to bring 180,000 British pounds at the Cavern Club where the band played hundreds of gigs. A bidder present at the club and an anonymous phone bidder duked it out until the American on the phone won the auction for 480,000 pounds. There is no word as to what the new owner intends to do with the simple three-bedroom home, but according to Sky News the site is still visited by Beatles fans so maybe a museum would make sense, even though the home has not belonged to the Lennon family for quite some time and none of his belongings remain there.
