The 2020 Olympics are a long way off, but we expect a lot of controversy about every aspect of the event over the next seven years. Zaha Hadid's designs for the New Olympic Stadium that will host the games were unveiled recently, but not everyone was thrilled to see them. Japanese architect Fumihiko Maki has organized a symposium of designers in opposition of Hadid's plans, calling for the architect to shrink her design to better fit the surrounding architecture in Tokyo, including the 1964 Olympic stadium nearby. "I'm not fighting Zaha. The competition for the stadium was very rigorous and we can't overturn everything. But the design could be better," he told the Architect's Journal.

The Symposium will be streamed live on Ustream with architects and designers including Toyo ItoSou FujimotoKengo Kuma, Taro Igarashi, and Hidenobu Jinnai among others lending their voices. We don't know if Hadid will appear at the symposium or whether or not the designers extended an invitation.
