You would think that a person who has been detained by the government and not allowed to leave their own country would want nothing to do with a secluded former high-security prison, but that's exactly where Chinese artist Ai Weiwei wants to stage his next major exhibition of work. Weiwei is looking for approval to show work on the island of Alcatraz, one of the most notorious prisons of all time, located in the San Francisco Bay. There are a host of agencies that have to review Weiwei's proposal. Now that the government shutdown is over, agencies like the National Park Service will soon be able to give Weiwei a response. If the exhibition is approved, it is expected to open as early as Fall of 2014.
