On Thursday, Sept. 6, Riverfront Studios hosted an event that launched Station to Station, a public art project made possible by Levi’s. Organized by artist Doug Aitken, Station to Station is a unique artistic amalgam the likes of which has never been attempted. It will connect prominent figures and underground creators from the worlds of art, music, food, literature, and film for a series of cultural interventions and site-specific happenings. Over the span of three weeks, the Station to Station train will make nine stops across the country as it travels from New York City to San Francisco--going, quite literally, from station to station. The train itself is designed to be a moving, kinetic light sculpture, and will broadcast unique content and experiences to a global audience as it travels.

The kickoff event at Riverfront Studios featured works by over two dozen gifted artists, along with a slate of live music performers that included Suicide, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, No Age, the YOSHIMIO + Hisham Akira Bharoocha + Ryan Sawyer TRIO, Kansas City Marching Cobras, and others. Station to Station is raising funds through ticket sales from its events in each of the nine cities, as well as from private donations, and will use the proceeds to support non-traditional programming at nine partner museums around the country.

The next stop for Station to Station is Minneapolis / St. Paul, followed by, Santa Fe, Winslow, Barstow, Los Angeles, and then, finally, Oakland/San Francisco. For more on Station to Station, made possible by Levi’s, click here and check out the video below. #MakeOurMark
