Sotheby's will be auctioning two works by Pablo Picasso via the artist's granddaughter Marina Picasso. One is a 1946 portrait depicting Picasso's lover Dora Maar worth about $3.5-4.5 million dollars. The other is a smaller still life work entitled “Palette and Bull Head” from 1938 worth around $1-2 million. It is the first time Marina will have sold works from her private archive through an auction house.
The money from the June 6 impressionist and modern sale in Paris will benefit programs for troubled teens in France, including ones in Nice’s Marina Picasso Center. It will also help build hospitals and orphanages for children left behind in Vietnam.
