We love our own mattresses, but when it comes to those of unknown others, especially ones discarded on the street, we are disgusted. Glasgow-based artist Adam Shield spots and photographs such old mattresses left out on the streets throughout the city. Although we would not go near these things in-person, in fear of the germs, bacteria, and all the scary things encountered throughout their service as someone's bed, in photographs they actually have an appeal. The artist publishes the images on his blog Sleeping Patterns as diptychs showing a wide frame of the mattress in its street setting, accompanied by a close-up of its unique printed pattern.
