Recently appointed creative director Hedi Slimane stirred the pot when he announced the name change of ready-to-wear brand Yves Saint Laurent to Saint Laurent Paris and then unveiled its new logo. The rebranding harkens back to the brands mid-60s heyday, when it first populrized the notion of ready-to-wear collections, as opposed to the couture fashion that had previously reigned supreme.

Reactions were definitely mixed, garnering both derision from Facebook fans but praise from fashion industry insiders like Karl Lagerfeld. The nonplussed Slimane simply deemed the backlash as "interesting." Time will tell if the lauded designer's work will be as well.  [nymag]
