Knee-deep snow? Check. Whipping winds and arctic chill? Sure. And it's all par for the course because it's New York Fashion Week and for Fall 2010, the Complex style squad trooped to midtown Manhattan to bring you, our dear readers, the best in what's next in fashion. So here are 5 brands you must learn and the reasons why you care. There will be a quiz and you will thank us. Enjoy.

Brand: Simon Spurr
Designer: Simon Spurr
Founded in: 2006
Why you care: With previous presentations at New York Fashion Week, this is Spurr's first runway show and the perfect opportunity for the designer to unveil his newly separated collections—Simon Spurr and Spurr. The former is a higher priced collection and the latter is a denim line in a lower price point with offerings we eagerly anticipate.

Brand: 3.1 Phillip Lim
Designer: Phillip Lim
Founded in: 2005
Why you care: 3.1 Phillip Lim began as a women's line and their success saw an expansion into menswear two years later. Phillip Lim made a particular splash with us when his foray into footwear unveiled understated colorways in luxurious materials (can you say Chukka meets suede desert boot with a zipper?) like his Brando and Meadon models.

Brand: Richard Chai
Designer: Richard Chai
Founded in: 2004
Why you care: Not only did the New York designer create capsule collections for Target and Topman, Chai collaborated with PRO-Keds for his Spring 2010 line and this season sent models down the runway exclusively sporting Timberland Boot Co. shoes.

Brand: Patrik Ervell
Designer: Patrik Ervell
Founded in: 2005
Why you care: This Swedish-born designer is king when it comes to utilitarian details and fabrics. Parachute nylon is one thing but for Fall 2010 Ervell laced us with nothing short of LATEX RAINCOATS AND JACKETS! Need we say more?

Brand: Duckie Brown
Designer: Steven Cox & Daniel Silver
Founded in: 2001
Why you care: While it's not the look we selected to show, designers Cox and Silver blew us away with their highland-inspired plaid match-ups shown throughout the collection. Their footwear collaboration with Florsheim since this same season last year similarly inspires us, most notably a kick-ass 8-hole wingtip boot.
