Are Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather actually going to fight? We are one step closer to answering that question with a resounding "yes," as UFC president Dana White shared some very encouraging news on Wednesday night.

While making an appearance on TNT’s Inside the NBA following Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, White was asked if the McGregor/Mayweather fight is ever going to happen. And he revealed that McGregor just agreed to his side of the fight. That does not mean that the fight is going to happen. White said he now has to go to Mayweather’s team and get them to agree to the proposed terms of the fight, which will be more difficult than getting McGregor to sign off on them. But it is, at the very least, a step in the right direction.

"The McGregor side is done," White said. "I’m starting to work on the Mayweather side now. I’m not saying the fight will happen, but I’ve got one side done. Now it’s time to work on the other. If we can come to a deal with [promoter Al] Haymon and Mayweather, the fight’s gonna happen."

McGregor confirmed what White said on TNT by releasing a statement on themaclife.com. "The first and most important part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off on," McGregor said in his statement. "Congratulations to all parties involved. We now await Al Haymon and his boxer’s signature in the coming days."

Early Wednesday, Mayweather did an interview and said that he was waiting to hear from White and McGregor. "I’m not here to throw anybody under the bus, [and] I can’t sit here and say that they are waiting on us," he said. "I’m not saying that. And we’re not waiting on them. I have a team for [negotiating], but as soon as their side communicates with our side, then the fight will happen."

Now it’s time to see if Mayweather will stay true to his word.
