If you’re married and you ever do anything noteworthy enough to earn an interview with the media, it’s always a good idea to go ahead and send a shout-out to your spouse. Chances are they played some role in your success, so sending a thank you is the least you can do to acknowledge them.

That’s what South African soccer player Mohammed Anas did after a Free State/Cape Town match on Friday. He was interviewed after scoring two goals and decided to show some love for his wife while speaking with a reporter. But unfortunately, he also accidentally showed some love for his girlfriend, and it ended up being every bit as awkward as it sounds.

"I appreciate my wife and my girlfriend," he said, before trying to backtrack quickly. "Sorry to say, I'm so sorry, my wife! I love you so much. I love you so much from my heart."

The video of Anas’ interview quickly went viral. And while some people tried to come up with a good excuse for how he could have made such a big blunderβ€”is it possible he got married somewhat recently and is just used to referring to his wife as his girlfriend?β€”the majority of those who saw the clip clowned Anas and told him to enjoy sleeping on the couch for a few weeks.

Whatever the case, this guy definitely had some explaining to do when he got home.
