The rest of the world might think Skip Bayless is crazy, but he’s confident in the hot takes that he provides for everyone on a daily basis. During a recent interview that Complex Sports did with him, Skip praised himself for being right more often than not when it comes to sharing his opinions on various sports-related topics.
"I just speak from my heart; I just get to truth telling," he said. "And I have consistently been correct on all these outrageous takes."
Here’s the thing, though: How hard is it to be "correct" when you play both sides of the field in certain situations and offer up conflicting opinions in the process?
As it turns out, not hard at all! And Skip proved it on Monday night during the College Football Playoff National Championship Game with his running Twitter analysis of Clemson and, more specifically, their star quarterback Deshaun Watson.
If you didn’t catch the game, Watson struggled at the start of the contest, and Clemson quickly fell into a 14-0 hole to Alabama. That led to Skip criticizing Watson for allowing the game to turn into a "joke":
At one point, Skip even said that the game was basically over in the first half:
Skip did finally dish out a compliment to Deshaun after Clemson got on the board right before the half to make it 14-7:
But he continued to go in on Clemson:
And he even suggested that there was only one Clemson player who actually came to play and that it was not Watson:
But then, a funny thing happened: Watson made Skip look like a fool by putting together one of the best fourth quarter performances we've ever seen. He finished the game with 420 yards passing and three touchdown passes, including one with just one second remaining on the clock to give Clemson the lead and ultimately the game.
And wouldn’t you know, Skip went and switched sides after Watson threw that pass! He totally flipped the script and suddenly made it seem as though he knew Watson was going to do what he did all along:
Additionally, he started going in on Alabama and, by this morning, he was calling Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban "overrated":
Now, none of this should come as a surprise. This is Skip going full Skip and taking whatever side of things pisses people off the most. But because he did it so blatantly on Twitter, he got called out by all of the people who realized that he tried to hop on the Deshaun Watson bandwagon loooooong after it had pulled out of the station:
We don’t doubt that Skip probably said some nice things about Watson in the week leading up to the CFB title game on his Fox Sports 1 show, Undisputed. But why did he think he could get away with picking when he would and wouldn’t praise him during the actual game?
It looks like Colin Cowherd isn’t the only Fox Sports talking head who’s going to meet the wrath of Clemson coach Dabo Swinney this week. Nice try, Skip, but this was weak even by your standards.
