The NBA didn't have any games scheduled for yesterday Thanksgiving holiday, which served as an opportunity for many players to be with their families and loved ones—if they weren't on the road with their teams. But it was a deeply sad holiday for both Cavaliers power forward Channing Frye and Grizzlies power forward Zach Randolph.

Frye's father Thomas unexpectedly passed away Thursday. That tragic event comes just one month after the death of Thomas' mother, Karen Mulzac-Frye, who died of cancer. Following Mulzac-Frye's passing, the Cavaliers (11-2) allowed Thomas to sit out two games to cope with the loss. Frye will not play Friday night's game against the Mavericks, and the team is granting the 10-year veteran an indefinite leave of absence.

The Cavaliers sent their condolences to Frye and his family in a statement about the passing of his parents.

Frye posted a somber note on his IG account about the sudden loss of his parents.

As for Randolph, the two-time All Star's mother Mae Randolph died on Thanksgiving as well. The team excused the 15-year veteran from their Friday game against Miami, and placed him on an indefinite leave of absence. The Grizzlies (10-5) released a statement to give their condolences for the loss of Randolph's mother which said, "Zach and his mother had an inseparable bond." The team's statement also detailed their gratitude to Randolph's mother for "the unbridled joy she took in attending our games," and said that "Mae raised Zach to be a man with an enormous heart, who is deeply committed to enriching the lives of those in need, and for that legacy we are forever indebted to her."
