Kevin McHugh, a soccer player in Ireland's Premier Division, sustained one of the worst (and grossest) injuries we've ever seen in a freak accident on Wednesday. McHugh had his left ring finger torn off after his wedding ring got caught on a fence as he jumped over it to retrieve a ball. He then decided to post a photo of it on Twitter, which you can see below. But WARNING: The photo is disgusting and will make you squirm.

Instead of going the more traditional route and calling an ambulance for help after the accident, McHugh actually hopped into his car and drove himself to the hospital to get treatment. He also somehow managed to keep his spirits high by making jokes on Twitter:

McHugh later added that he may have sustained "too much damage" to save his finger, which will likely force him to walk around with a left hand that looks like something straight out of The Simpsons. But for someone who lost a digit in an incredibly gruesome—and incredibly painful—accident, McHugh appeared to be in a great mood on Twitter on Wednesday night:

McHugh was scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday morning. Finger crossed, everything went okay. Er, c'mon, even he would laugh at that one.
