Penn State’s 250-pound kicker Joey Julius has been a social media favorite this season. While the kicker position is typically reserved for smaller players who would rather avoid collisions, Julius—who is built more like a linebacker or defensive end—has cherished running down the field and obliterating returners.

Last week, though, Minnesota’s Jaylen Waters blatantly targeted Julius and laid him out when he was away from the play. Waters was ejected from the game. Today, another player was ejected for going after Julius: Maryland’s Isaiah Davis.

Julius was, again, away from the ball carrier and was slowing down when Davis took the heavy kicker off his feet and sent him airborne. The kick had gone out of bounds.

Naturally, the Happy Valley crowd reacted loudly to their beloved kicker getting smacked yet again.

Some are saying Julius flopped. Regardless of how you see it, it was a terribly dumb play by Davis, a redshirt freshman.

The 235-pound inside linebacker had no reason to go after Julius. He clearly knew the kicker’s reputation.
