High Schooler Blocks Stephen Curry Game-Winning Three Attempt in Taiwan Scrimmage

Stephen Curry's potential buzzer-beating three was swatted away by a high schooler during a scrimmage in Taiwan.

Over the extended Labor Day weekend Stephen Curry was in China as a part of a tour for Under Armour, which included several stops in major cities including Hong Kong, Shengyang, Guangzhou and Taipei. During his stop in Taipei, he played an exhibition contest and, evidently, had the ball with the clock ticking down, and the game on the line, while being covered by high schooler, Gian Mamuyac. Mamuyac, as you can see in that five-second clip embedded above promptly swatted the shot the f away after the 2016 NBA MVP tried to shake him with a crossover.

While getting rejected by a sub-six-foot-tall 17-year-old may be--I don't know--humbling, Mamuyac is no ordinary prep, and is instead a student at Ateneo High School, a prestigious basketball academy in the Philippines. He also played on the Filipino U-18 national squad during the 2016 Southeast Asian Basketball Association Tournament (don't try to act like you haven't heard of it), which was a team that ended China's 33-game tournament winning streak.

Still you're more than welcome to counter any facts about Mamuyac's background with the simple observation of "He's a freakin' teenager."

As for Curry, the last time we saw him on an NBA court was, again, with the game on the line in a contest of similar slightly greater importance than an exhibition on a promotional tour, Game 7 of the Finals. So how did that go? Not that great:

After Mamuyac's block, Curry ended up asking for a do-over with less effort from the man guarding him:

But he goes home a winner! Gian Mamuyac @mamuinthesea is the MVP of Steph Curry in Taiwan! 🇵🇭💪🏼🏀 #REPRESENT pic.twitter.com/VBvNk3oNmL

Mamuyac also went home with MVP honors from the scrimmage (huh?), plus he got an invite to Curry's basketball camp:

See how that works?
