It’s been a rough week for Ejiro Ederaine. Not only did the undrafted free agent get cut by the Washington Redskins, but he accidentally exposed the team’s entire defensive playbook on his way out.

Ederaine, from Fresno State, reportedly threw his defensive workbooks away near the hotel where Washington rookies stay during preseason, according to CBS DC. A fan named Josh claims he found them in a clear trash bag.

“It’s the entire defensive playbook with audibles, descriptions of what the guy’s supposed to do, the whole nine yards,” he told 106.7 The Fan.

A Redskins spokesman says the workbooks contain no proprietary information. Josh says that is very wrong.

“[I]t has what you do in a hot route, what his assignment would have been, what the guy next to him’s assignment would have been,” Josh said. “It has breakdowns and handwritten things of the new calls, like the defense changed the call or whatever. He scratched it out and put the new verbiage for it. I mean, it’s got everything.”

Traditionally, teams will collect playbooks when players are cut. The Redskins apparently missed that step with Ederaine.

It’s unclear if or how Washington will get the playbooks from Josh. This has certainly served as a reminder to the other 31 NFL teams to be extra vigilant. They’ll make their final cuts Saturday.
