A huge shakeup in the LSU coaching staff happened on Sunday as Les Miles was terminated from his job as head coach. ESPN confirmed the news after multiple reports surfaced.

According to Baton Rouge'sThe Advocate, there was much speculation surrounding the future of "The Mad Hatter" as head coach leading up to today prior to LSU's Vice Chancellor and athletic director Joe Alleva ultimately deciding to give him the ax. The Tigers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron was fired as well.

At a press conference about the team's coaching changes, Alleva stated:

“Decisions like this are never easy ones to make. Coach Miles has done a tremendous job here and he’s been a great ambassador for our University, which makes this even more difficult. However, it’s apparent in evaluating the program through the first month of the season that a change has to be made. Our commitment to excellence and competing at the highest level is unwavering, and our goals for the remainder of this season haven’t changed. We have an obligation to our student-athletes to put them in the best position to have success on the football field each week and we have great confidence that coach Orgeron will do just that.”

LSU was ranked as No. 5 in the AP preseason poll, but has fallen to 2-2 since their season went underway. Things didn't help when they lost to their SEC rival Auburn yesterday 18-13 on the road.

Miles has been the head coach of LSU since January 2005. In 2011, he was named AP Coach of the Year. Under Miles' tenure, LSU won two SEC championships in 2007 and 2011, as well as the national championship in 2007. In 11 seasons, he became the second-winningest coach in school history who boasted a record of 112-32.

The Tigers defensive lineman coach Ed Orgeron will be the team's interim head coach for the remainder of this season.
