Heading into his fight with Canelo Alvarez on Saturday night, WBO light-middleweight champion Liam Smith had a record of 23-0-1 and he had knocked plenty of guys out, but he had never been knocked out himself. That all ended when Canelo landed an absolutely devastating blow to Smith’s body in the 9th round of their fight. Canelo was leading the fight comfortably at the time of the knockout and he was in control for the majority of the match, but the knockout solidified his win—as well as his status as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport of boxing right now.

Soooooo, what’s up with that fight against Gennady Golovkin, Canelo? By the time Smith’s body hit the mat, people were already wondering when Canelo was going to agree to a fight with GGG:

Canelo looked really sharp tonight. Smith fought to the best of his ability, no shame in losing at all. Canelo now has to fight GGG next!!

No word on when/if it’ll actually happen, so for now, go enjoy that KO that Canelo recorded on Saturday again. It was an impressive one, and it moved Canelo to an astounding 48-1-1.
