Ray Allen hasn't played in an NBA game since the 2014 Finals but has never actually filled out the necessary paperwork to officially retire. There's a reason for that, and he explained it during an interview with the Hartford Courantsaying, "I've been watching, seeing what teams have been doing and I've been waiting to see if the opportunity presented itself where I think I could fit."

While that could indicate a number of suitors, if Spike Lee were to have his way the NBA's all-time leader in three-pointers would be donning a Knicks jersey next season. Allen relayed as much, saying of the man who made him Jesus Shuttlesworth, "Spike Lee has been trying to recruit me. We've been texting."

Allen also indicated that though he, like every veteran, wouldn't be interested in a rebuilding situation, he wouldn't necessarily need the Cavs or Warriors to come calling to make him come back.

For example, he says he's been in talks with both the Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics, both of whom are former teams of his that the 41-year-old clearly remembers fondly. "I would love going back to those places if it worked out because both teams are good, too," he told the Hartford Courant. "It doesn't necessarily have to be championship-or-bust for me to go back to the NBA."

Allen wants to make his decision before training camp, saying that the option of joining a squad mid-season is likely out. "At the start of the year, if nothing pans out, then basically I'll retire," he said.

This all seems like a much more realistic scenario than the other former 41-year-old player who was talking about coming back to the game earlier this week.

Guess we'll all just have to stay tuned.
