UPDATE #2:

Actually, scratch that earlier update. Because, as it turns out, the White Sox released an official statement late Sunday morning that said they're suspending Sale for five games for "insubordination," which includes Saturday night's game:

He's slated to return to the rotation Thursday.

UPDATE:

Sale will reportedly not be disciplined by the team for Saturday night's incident, according to NBC Chicago's Peggy Kusinski:

Official: Chris Sale has been scratched from tonight’s scheduled start.

The Sale incident began with something "silly" that mushroomed into a bigger argument, says a source. #Whitesox

Original Story Below

There has been some beef cooking between White Sox pitcher Chris Sale and his team's management for awhile now. It all started and has culminated once again in their clubhouse.

Their ace was supposed to start against the Tigers on Saturday in Detroit, but things reportedly went awry quickly as Sale was scratched from taking the mound for the game. The team cited an incident in the clubhouse that went undisclosed yet deemed "non-physical in nature." Here is the White Sox statement below:

Chris Sale isn't a fan of the 1976 Chicago White Sox throwbacks, so he cut all of them up. https://t.co/fBAkBjmzTY pic.twitter.com/Jfhkp4fZKp

Matt Albers replaced Sale as a result, but what exactly happened here that made him get scratched? Well, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, Sale had no problems with teammates in the clubhouse, yet it was something quite petty between Sale and the team's management.

Not sure if or how Kenny Williams was involved. Sale has had strained relations with #whitesox and things finally boiled over.

Sale apparently had a major problem with the throwback jerseys that they were set to take the field and wear for the game.

Chris Sale said Ken Williams told "bald-faced lie," variously blamed teammtes, coaches and management for change in Drake La Roche's access.

In further reporting by Crasnick, tempers flared in the clubhouse between team EVP management and Sale:

Not a joke: Source says Sale blowup was because he didn't want to wear throwbacks, so he cut the jerseys up so no one could wear them.

— Tommy Stokke (@StokkeTommy) July 23, 2016

But this stems from March when Sale took exception to the management not allowing his teammate Adam LaRoche's son hang out in the clubhouse all day during a game. So the grudge still is still intact.

Source: "Sale asked that they not wear (throwbacks) on his day because they are uncomfortable. Things escalated when they wouldn't relent."

So to lash out in anger with all that compounded in his feelings, Sale broke and allegedly started cutting up the throwback jerseys. He really did.

Dude literally threw a fit like a kid younger than that 14-year-old he defended to the team's management and refused to rock the jersey for the game. And since he was sent packing from the game, this was the end result.

That's something you can't make up. You just can't.
