Many football programs, both college and pro, host events for female football fans. These are ostensibly a good thing; they integrate more women every year into a primarily male-dominated sport.

Texas A&M held one such event Wednesday night, however, that’s getting publicity for the wrong reasons. As The Houston Chronicle noted, “The intention may have been good, but the execution fell flat.”

Dubbed “Chalk Talk,” the event included a remix of sorts to the classic A&M fight song, “Aggie War Hymn.” The lyrics of this new version were, uhh, a little troubling.

We are Aggie women
We are filled with estrogen
Hullabaloo, canek, canek, and back again

Maroon & white are the colors we love
We are putting down our dish towels
And taking off our gloves

No more lysol or cascade
We want to score Touchdowns
And walk in the parade

We are Aggie women & this is our song
Come on... bring it on... no more thong
Hullabaloo, caneck, caneck., and so on...

Filled with estrogen, though? Putting down our dish towels? No more Lysol?

Come on, man. No one thought this might strike a chord and get out into the media?

Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin responded to the negative backlash with the following statement.

To state the extremely obvious: a woman has a good shot at winning the presidency. This song probably would’ve been offensive even several decades ago.

What I'm seeing is absolutely embarrassing. And insulting. And.... just.... NO. #ChalkTalk @AggieFootball @12thMan
@tadousay @TAMU @12thMan I'm an Aggie and I agree that this is ridiculous. I hope they remove this next year bc it's a great event.
Looks like this Chalk Talk at A&M was beyond disrespectful. There may be a female president. We can do anything. Start respecting us.
Guess how sexist Texas A&M's event for female football fans was: https://t.co/ufm5QX4TFw

The attendees, who paid $80 to enter, should perhaps get their money back.
