Zurlon Tipton, who spent the last two seasons playing running back for the Colts after going undrafted out of Central Michigan in 2014, died after accidentally shooting himself Tuesday morning at a car dealership in Roseville, Mich. He was 26.

According to Roseville Police and Fox 2 in Michigan, Tipton pulled into a service bay at Mike Riehl’s Roseville Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram at 9:30 a.m. and went into his trunk to remove a duffel bag that contained two guns. As he was removing the bag, one of the guns accidentally went off and shot Tipton in the stomach. In the immediate aftermath, Tipton was reportedly conscious and speaking with employees at the dealership, as well as those who transported him to a nearby hospital. But Tipton died a short time later as a result of the injuries. No one else was injured during the shooting.

The Colts, owner Jim Irsay, and several of Tipton's former teammates responded to his death on social media:

Donte Moncrief also posted this lengthy message on Instagram:

Tipton was arrested in December after he allegedly fired an AR-15 assault rifle outside of his girlfriend’s home in Greenwood, Ind. He had been released by the Colts about a month before that incident occurred.
