It sucks when your dogs go missing. The prospect of them out in the real world all alone without scraps to beg for, balls to fetch, and legs to hump is a shitty thought. Houston Texans linebacker Whitney Mercilus had to live through the awful reality of losing both of his dogs Thursday, when his terrier mix and German Shepard both just sort of wandered off from a gated area when he was at practice.

Still, it's good to have resources, and instead of (or, in addition to) going door-to-door and posting "Missing" posters on area light poles and stop signs, Mercilus sent the word out to his 57,000+ Twitter followers to keep their eyes peeled for his duo of AWOL pooches:

People RT'ed the word and sent their condolences in one of the rare instances where users of social media weren't reactionary dicks:

What followed was good news:

And this reunion:

Shout-out to the Barreras. Mercilus gave them four tickets to a future Texans game for their find.
