A Spanish handball player completely lost his shit and sucker punched a ref after the official had the gall to give his teammate a red card yesterday night in the final minutes of some match for some league. Afterward police were called to the scene because giving a teammate a red card is not a justifiable reason to punch a person in the back of the head, apparently.

The player who threw the haymaker, a guy named Eddy Cordoba, iswas said to have behavior that "has always been exemplary," according to his manager.

He was unable to say "sorry" to the man he decked on account of the ref having already left the stadium to go to the hospital, but was at least nice enough to say it to a "federation rep" so he could pass it along. Despite that he'll still face assault charges.

After he was treated for said punching, the 16-year-old veteran referee said that it, “[L]eft me in a state of shock, it was between the ear and the jaw and I had an earpiece in." He also added that he "didn't see it coming," which is what we all sort of assumed after watching the footage. He also indicated he'll be filing a formal complaint.

Cordoba's punishment is still up in the air for the sport, in addition to the law. We expect it to be severe even though we know absolutely nothing about about what a formal complaint is, or the league that he's in, or handball.
