The only reason most goalkeepers from outside of the world's elite go famous is for their unlikely goalscoring abilities (see Rogerio Ceni or Jose Luis Chilavert) but Glenn Verbauwhede has been displaying a never-before-seen newsworthy habit on the pitch.
The 30-year-old Belgian shotstopper for South African Premier League team Maritzburg United has found fame online by turning himself into a human dart. Verbauwhede drops the ball – begs an opponent to take it from him – before picking the ball and flying at the onrushing opponent headfirst. The idea, everyone thinks, is to con the referee into thinking he's been deliberately kicked in the head – prompting a sending off.
No one's fallen for it yet.
