BMX legend Dave Mirra died this afternoon in Greenville, N.C. Police officers found the 41-year-old's body in his truck with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

In 1995, at the age of 21, Mirra made an appearance in the first ever X-Games. He promptly medaled, the first of 14 straight years that he'd go onto do that. In all he won 24 X-Games medals, 14 of them gold. His success on his bike brought him more wide-ranging fame, from everything to his own video game series, as well as  a hosting gig for two seasons of MTV's Real World/Road Rules Challenge. In addition to that Mirra was also a driver for Subaru's rally car team.

He is survived by his wife and their two kids.
