Tyson Fury has found a friend in ex-heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson.

The undefeated world heavyweight champion has found praise tough to come by since he defeated Wladimir Klitschko last year – instead making headlines for all the wrong reasons – but his namesake has got his back.

Fury has been hammered by the press and the public after making homophobic and sexist remarks in a number of interviews. He told the Mail that homosexuality is a sign of impending apocalypse, while he's also on record saying that a woman's best place is "in the kitchen or on her back".

Now, retired legend Mike Tyson – who has had a rocky past before reforming his character in recent years – says Fury should be given an easier ride:

"I’m just happy he was the champ. You can say what you want about Tyson Fury, make fun of him, but there’s one guy in the US named Michael Gerard Tyson who’s so proud he has my name.

Tyson Fury was named after boxing legend Mike following his birth in 1988, at which point he ruled the heavyweight division.
