Kobe Bryant's father Joe "Jellybean" Bryant appeared on CBS Radio's Brown and Scoop podcast recently, and had an interesting take on which current player might be most likely to follow in his son's footsteps.
When asked if the constant comparisons between Kobe and Michael Jordan bothered him, the elder Bryant said they did not, before naming the one player he believes could one day enter that same conversation.
"Michael was Michael. Michael was special. Kobe is Kobe. Kobe was special. You’re not going to find too many players with a similar body, similar height. Kobe grew up watching Michael. We had to overseas, we didn’t have all those internet stuff that you have now. We had this film company called Pontelle that you used to deliver VHS tapes to us. We used to share them throughout the Americans overseas and we used to catch all the games. Sure, they were two or three weeks old, but for us it was new. Kobe had a chance to watch Chicago, Detroit, all those series that were so great.
Andrew Wiggins is an interesting enough choice, because the combination of size and athleticism he possesses is truly impressive. But it was kind of random, too, because unless Bryant hasn't been paying attention to the league for the past two seasons, it's hard to imagine Stephen Curry not getting the mention instead.
