Cowboys Won't Put Tony Romo on Injured Reserve Because the NFC East is Terrible

Just because they're 3-8 doesn't mean they're out of it.

It's not really a news flash that the NFC East sucks. As of today the standings look like this:

Washington Redskins: 5-6
New York Giants: 5-6
Philadelphia Eagles: 4-7
Dallas Cowboys: 3-8

Because of this inarguable fact, the Cowboys' front office has opted not to put Tony Romo on season-ending injured reserve, despite the fact that his re-broken collarbone was given a six-to-eight week healing timetable (and there are only five weeks left to play in the regular season). If Romo were to have any chance of coming back and breaking his collarbone a third time, Dallas would almost certainly have to beat Washington this week on Monday Night Football. While it may be tough to get hyped for a Matt Cassel versus Kirk Cousins primetime matchup, yesterday's "showdown" paired a 3-7 team against a 2-8 team. And that turned out all right.
