There's only one challenge on a football pitch that Lionel Messi can't overcome – involuntary vomiting.

The mesmerising Barcelona star has an unwelcome habit of throwing up on the pitch during big moments, which pretty much goes against the perceived ice cool character of the world's greatest player.

In a bid to curb his illness troubles, Messi visited a doctor in Italy this week on the recommendation of his Argentina team mate, Martin Demichelis. It was the third time Messi seeked help from Dr Giuliano Poser to fix a problem that has plagued his near-perfect career.

It's said that Lionel Messi suffers from "anxiety" issues.

Messi's most recent episode of on-pitch vomiting came in Barcelona's Copa Del Rey match with Atletico Madrid in March.

Last year, Messi spoke about the problem to TV in Argentina:

“I don’t know what it is. But I had a thousand exams. I start to feel nauseous to the point where I almost vomit, and then it goes away.”

The man who led Argentina to the World Cup final last year, Alejandro Sabella, says the problem arises from "anxiety".
