Reports in Belgium claim that a group of the country's international footballers – including Chelsea's Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois – are being investigated by Belgian authorities in relation to tax evasion schemes in Luxembourg.

Belgian newspaper De Morgen claims that Kevin Mirallas and Divock Origi are other players who could come under fire in the investigation, which has been launched to determine how much tax money stars are evading. The newspaper believes that the players are using companies in Luxembourg to transfer money, bypassing higher tax rates in the process.

A financial expert quoted in De Morgan says:

"These practices are legal if those involved can prove that the company is run from Luxembourg, which is naturally difficult (to prove)."

The story follows hot on the heels of last year's 'Lux Leak', an investigation launched by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, that highlighted Luxembourg as a tax haven that companies and banks are taking advantage of.
