It’s been a difficult season for Liverpool, and that has never been better symbolized than by Manchester United’s opening goal in the teams’ highly-anticipated match this morning.

United winger Antonio Valencia faced up to Liverpool defender Joe Allen, then coolly passed the ball to himself right between the hapless Allen’s legs before slotting it across the top of the 18 for Wayne Rooney to finish off. It’s the type of playground move that few would have the audacity to try in a game, and to have it happen to you is pretty humiliating no matter what part of the field you’re on. Considering it led directly to a goal, Allen would be forgiven if he just stays in the locker room at halftime.

Juan Mata's headed goal on a questionable offside no-call just before halftime double United's advantage, and given that they're playing at home the Red Devils look primed to take all three points.
