Jonas Gutierrez will complete his comeback from cancer when he steps onto the field for Newcastle United against West Ham in an Under-21s fixture.

The 31-year-old returned to the Premier League club last month after overcoming testicular cancer. Following weeks of training, this will be the midfielder's first taste of on-pitch action since four games with Norwich City during a loan spell earlier this year.

Jonas Gutierrez made his first appearance since returning to Newcastle in an interview with the club last week.

Speaking to NUFC TV, the ex-Argentina international said:

"I had to say thank you because they (fans) gave me the power and the strength to go through the cancer.

I think when you do the right things in your life, that things come back to you. It was amazing to get that kind of support (Newcastle fans clapping in 18th minute) and singing my song, I'm really proud and thank you."

Gutierrez is a fans favourite at Newcastle after playing a large role in the club's promotion from the Championship in 2009/10. He's scored 10 goals in 177 league games with The Magpies.
