Yesterday, Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman announced that Jimmy Clausen will take over at quarterback in place of the struggling Jay Cutler.

The 31-year-old Cutler, who signed a seven-year $126 million extension last January, has thrown 18 interceptions this season, to go along with nine fumbles, and Trestman has clearly had enough.

The news, however, hasn’t gone over so well in the locker room, with at least two notable Chicago Bears.

Jeff Dickerson, of ESPNChicago.com, reports that two unidentified players stated that several members of the team are “confused and uncomfortable” with the way Trestman and the Chicago coaching staff went about the benching.

Though they’re not named in the report, Dickerson says “a pair of accomplished and respected Chicago Bears players” have echoed these sentiments.

The unrest over Cutler’s benching probably stems from last week’s incident with offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer, who ripped Cutler in the media anonymously, and then came forward with an apology to Cutler and the team. There was no punishment for Kromer.

Also, according to NFL.com reporter Michael Silver, several Bears think Clausen will “light it up” Sunday against the Lions. Okay, then.
