Michael Schumacher has been left paralysed in a wheelchair with speech and memory problems, according to a friend and former racing driver.
The motorsport legend was placed an induced coma for several months after suffering severe head injuries during a skiing accident in December 2013, when his head hit a rock. He was moved to a new home in September and his family are reportedly spending £100,000 a month on his healthcare.
Now Philippe Streiff, an ex-F1 driver who was paralysed himself during a crash in 1989, has given the world a harrowing update on his condition:
“He is getting better but everything is relative. It’s very difficult. He can’t speak. Like me he is in a wheelchair, paralysed. He has memory problems and speech problems.”
Michael Schumacher's doctors have already said that it could take years for the driver to make a recovery, while his spokespeople have said quotes attributed to Streiff are just "opinions".
