Last season, former NBA player Delonte West averaged 23.7 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Fujian Xunxing of the Chinese Basketball Assocation. So in the CBA offseason, the Shanghai Sharks—a team owned by Yao Minggave West a one-year, $500,000 contract that could have been worth up to $1 million with incentives. But a short time ago, just four games into the Sharks' season, the Sharks announced that they have released West.

So why did they release him? Well, it sounds like their decision was based on his performance so far this season. West averaged 12.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in his four games with the team, meaning his numbers were down pretty significantly based on what he was able to do last year. And his head coach didn't like it.

"Honestly, we did not expect such a drop in performance," Sharks coach Ma Yuenan told reporters.

It's unclear where West will go from here. He played for the Clippers this past summer during the NBA Summer League. But unless he catches on with another team overseas, there's a chance that his playing days could be over. Stay tuned to see what he decides to do next.
